LAND MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP- SPRING 2015

ACT is a local not-for-profit that protects and restores natural Florida for future generations. The field-centered internship included trail blazing, building boardwalks, planting native trees, removing invasive trees, prescribed fire, pioneer species removal, and potentially some public outreach activities like local creek paddles.

As a Land Management Intern, I was responsible for identifying species, herbaceous release, hardwood removal, and removal of invasive species. My knowledge expanded from the theoretical in class lectures to the physical application of topics. I was fascinated by the this application, however, I felt as if something was missing.

Every activity and project I participated in, I asked about how law could be applied. I could not receive the answers I was looking for and realized the internship was not for me. In hindsight, I am glad I participated in the internship because even I did not find out what I want to do ultimately, I did find what I do not what to do.
